Just wanted to say Hi

Postby Bikermouse on Sun Oct 12, 2008 7:37 pm

Hi all

Just wanted to say hi to you all. I've just joined the forum as I'm very interested in taking up paintball.......even though I've never done it before!!

I used to shoot .22 rifles and miss the target practice........although those targets were always stationary.............I like the thought of a moving one......haha.

What advice would you give someone new to the sport and on equipment to buy etc?

Also, never having done paintballing before, can I just turn up and play with whoever is there?

Cheers

Matt

best way to get into paintball matey is to play it, whether with friends or by joining in with another party.

I would seriously not reccomend you to buy anything until you play it a few times because if you find its not the sport for you then you've wasted money!!

contact details for the site owner can be found

http://www.nemesispaintball.info/contacts1.html

Give Iain a call and see when he's got a game you can join in with, or organise one yourself.

Basic costs for this are £10 for all kit hire, marker (politically correct name for a gun), overalls, gloves, hoody and battle pack. Air is included free of charge too. Paint costs are £5 per 100 balls and my advice is if you can afford to budget for £50 then do so. you should go home with change.

A lot of other sites are around and all charge different proces so make sure you check gear hire and paint prices if you go there.

I'm always a great believer of getting more players into the sport and their are always people willing to help newbies or oldies no matter where you go.

Once you've done a couple of games the next thing to try is a walk-on.

The pricing structure is different than normal. Its £25 to play (whether you have your own gear or not) and paint is £25 a box of 2000 for site paint or £30 a box for a better grade. The other option is to Bring Your Own paint (BYO), but thats all down to the site owners disgression.

A walk-on will include regular players and members of various Scenario teams who are often looking for a laugh. Yes they have their own gear but their/mine Marker doesn't fire and more powerfully than the sites, we're not allowed to by law, but may fire faster.

Now if you survive a walk-on we'll need a little chat and basically i'm the guy to talk to about getting you set up with equipment.

Where do do you live fella?

I look forward to reading more on the forum.

Hey bikermouse,

You stumbled across the right place, Ive come from another paintball site and played with these guys on saturday, real good laugh, guys are spot on and very helpful. Dont buy your own gear until your wanting to get into the sport seriously as its pretty costly, Ive just gone down this route as Im going to be a regular and Ive spent in excess of £300, you wont need to spent that much but a realistic figure for a setup that your not gonna be disappointed with is still gonna be around 200quid. Until youve had a few games I wouldnt recommend it as its expensive and to keep your marker in top condition your gonna want to service it after everygame, if your not used to taking things apart then its probably not worth getting a marker of your own for a good while.

As Garage says, theres practically no difference between the site provided guns and the guns that people own. The faster fire he mentions is due to upgrades and practise of a fast trigger finger. A friend of mine came along on saturday and used the site guns as he doesnt want to buy his own and we co-op'ed all day and his site gun was no less accurate than my brand new gun which set me back a total of £165.

What it basically boils down to is knowing your gun. The more you get used to one thing the better you get with it. My gun will only ever be used by me, and Ill never use another gun, so the more I use it the more Ill get better with how far I can shoot and still be accurate. Since all guns naturally vary slightly due to differing degrees of usage, age, manufacturer etc etc etc then picking up one gun will always be different in some way to another, even if its the same model of marker, unless your gonna shoot pretty regular then you wont notice any difference as you wont be using it enough to either get specialised with that marker or tell the slight irregularities between markers. The site guns are very good and my mate had no hassle with it all day.

So save yourself some cash for now and get involved with a game asap! £50 is a good budget to go for. Im organising a company game and have advised everyone to bring ATLEAST £40, most people who are new wont use that, I used to use between 300-500 in a whole day, but its definately better to have more money than you need, than need it and not have it, cos leaving a game midway is sure gonna suck, if you expect to spent 50quid and dont, well youll be able to stop off for a ice cold beer on the way home!

I will definately need to get hold of Iain to find out when the day is that I could come along...........as long at it doesn't coincide with a kid weekend!

I might be sadistic but I'm looking forward to it........even though I know that I'll be aching and bruised for days afterwards.

Hopefully see you soon!

Looking forward to meeting you at the walk-on bikermouse. Although not my first time playing paintball it is my first time playing at Nemesis, and the first time playing with my own marker which I got last week (ohh the excitement, i'm like a kid again and cannot wait)

I don't know any of the guys (and gals) here personally yet but no matter what questions I have asked they have all been answered with enthusiasm and all been very helpful. I think this alone gives a good idea of what to expect when finally getting on site.

As for the beer gut, don't worry.. I have a slightly rounded torso, although i'm sure its just well toned muscle albeit not in the conventional shape of a body builder.. and at 43 years young, i'll definatly be aching at the end of the day :)

Thank you everyone for the welcomes. I am looking forward to meeting you all and it's good to know that I'm not the only one who has over developed their six pack into a keg (that's how I get around it Matzy..lol). I've got my body armour ready in the form of full riot gear..........I need to protect that beer gut!!

I'm looking forward to my first paintball session on the 23rd November........bring on the pain(t)......lol

Now thats a very fair comment.. As maschocistic as it sounds i'd be more than happy to leave feeling the pain by the end of the day, although to be honest I usually find it hurts more in the morning.. maybe its just old age as it takes a while for the pain to catch up with me now too.. :) And yes.. since were being totally honest .. I guess i'm a fat git too!
